4 MOONS

How do you portray an idea without the picture?

At the start of my photography studies in 2021, I started noticing my vision getting worse.
When I went back to my home country Cyprus for the first time, I was diagnosed with Keratoconus.

You can imagine the horror in 2021 Dimis as he was sitting at the opthalmatologist’s chair, being told that
he will have to go into surgery, might need transplants, or even go legally blind by a visual impairment he had never heard of before.

After having my first surgery done, I came back to The Netherlands where I was pursuing my studies, unsure of what the next step was.

As I’m writing this (2025), I’m very happy 2021 Dimis decided to go against the stream and pushed through.

Ironically enough, photography came to me as a helping hand throughout a very confusing period in my life.
That was the first time I felt photography on a deeper level than just its technological manifestations.
And this project marks the start of my quest as a visually impaired photographer.

4 moons was the first publication I had created back in my first year of studies where I manipulated photographs in the darkroom,
so I could show others how I now see.
